Photography. To me, that word is a way to express myself, a way to capture a split second of perfection, a way to share beauty. In my life, photography acts as an outlet for any drama I might be dealing with, any pent up frustration. It acts as a soothing form of therapy that calms my racing mind. In the real world, no one has control over what happens to him or her, but when I am in the dark room, I am in complete control. I dictate which picture to develop and how it will look: dark, gloomy, and dramatic, or bright, cheerful, and natural. To me, photography and the creative process are a way to escape my troubles and make my own piece of beauty in the process.
My creative influences are everything I see, feel and experience. The world around me simply drives my creativity. Everywhere I look, I see something to photograph or something whose beauty deserves to be shared with the world. On a daily basis, the beauty of nature and the uniqueness of each individual person I pass in the hallway constantly amaze me. Another major influence in my life is my sister. From a young age, I always admired my sister. She was a talented artist: she could draw, paint, photograph. When I was finally old enough, I began to follow in her footsteps and dabbled in as many areas of art as I could. I took an art and technology class, a drawing and painting class, ceramics, and photography and I only learned one thing: it doesn't matter what type of art I am doing, I can express myself through any medium.
My current work is a bit darker than normal in the sense that it is a social commentary. My latest shoot was a studio shoot in which I organized my own shoot as well as dressed and placed my models. I chose to focus on the shallowness of those in high school who label others based on appearances. I developed my negatives with a darker background to give a gloomy, somber feel to the cruelty some kids face every day. Some of my other work contains the same atmosphere and that seems to be an overall theme that comes out of my work. By looking at my website, I hope you learn a little bit about what makes me tick: my love for shooting and working with models, my love for incorporating nature into my photographs, and most importantly, my love for art.
